Jumping on the Trend Train

Jumping on the Trend Train

It can be hard to spot the incoming trends when things change so hastily and yet slowly all at the same time. The trending styles from 5 years ago aren’t out of touch, but they have definitely been reworked into a fresher look!

From the 70’s Butterfly cut popularity and the super blunt French bob of last year, comes refreshed and modern styles to fit our 2024 aesthetic. Check out what we’ve found and are loving below!

Styles

Long layers

Long hair never goes out of style! But the new look is deflating the super bouncy butterfly cut of last year into soft long layers. This gorgeous look accentuates and complements almost every face shape and uses natural texture to bring movement and life into your style. You can also use hot rollers or a curling iron to give that bounce for more elegant affairs.

The beauty of long layers is that the style can be accomplished on medium to long length hair, so for many guests there isn’t a need for lengthy extensions or time to grow. It’s also versatile for any occasion or style. It looks great in a slicked back ponytail at the gym while also impressing at a black tie gala with very little effort either way.

Textured bangs

Curtain bangs aren’t going anywhere, but the trending look takes the curtain bang and blends it with traditional straight across fringe. So, they are longer than straight across bangs but shorter than the 2023 curtains, however they maintain the curtain shape and longer pieces to hug your cheekbones.

These bangs are great because they’re easier to rock than traditional straight bangs and don’t require the same styling time and effort that many think of when considering bangs. However, they also have more coverage and edgy flair than the longer curtain bangs that truly frame your face. It’s a super fun look that can add flair to nearly any haircut.

Soft midi-bob

French bobs are super classy and stunning, but if we’re being honest, cannot flatter everyone. So, last year’s trend of the blunt French bob was fun but not universal. This year, we’re seeing a lot of “grown in” or midi-bobs and we are loving the look! The texture is not super blunt, but also not super bouncy or textured either.

Because it’s longer than a French bob but shorter than a straight lob (long bob), this soft look compliments many different face shapes and hair textures. We do recommend adding some softness and subtle layering for texture and movement, but this style doesn’t use chunky layers or dimension, so subtle is key!

Color

Warm Copper

Slightly richer than a (also trending) strawberry blonde and more depth/true red than an auburn, the coined cowgirl copper has been all the rage this year. We’ve seen it with more burgundy hues for cooler skin tones and more vibrant apricot/copper for warmer tones. It’s a head turning, stunning look!

We’ll be honest, red shades are not for everyone. It can be difficult to maintain anything in the red/copper family (see our previous post on all things red!), but it is gorgeous and can be tailored to coordinate and complement your skin tone and even your eyes. As long as you’re willing to keep up with the regular maintenance appointments, it’s a fun and glamorous color to try!

Bronde

Is it brown or is it blonde? That’s the question many have asked, and the answer now is,
“It’s bronde!” A gorgeous blend of medium to light brown and dark to medium blonde that melts together to create a stunning color design. The color boasts lived in, deeper roots and lighter ribbons of dimension. The contrasting levels of color create the appearance of volume and movement.

While super solid platinum is peeking out as a trend, the stark contrast of dark to light in one style is starting to head for the exit. Instead, the ribbons of color and dimension are subtle, which again, blends the brown and blonde into an obscure level. It’s unique and elegant, and fit for almost everyone.

Brown Balayage

Last year we saw monotone brunettes and deep chocolate browns for a sophisticated and glamorous palette. This year, we’re seeing the same deep tones but adding super subtle ribbons of caramel and hazelnut for dimension and luxurious hair.

The ribbons of color are subtle enough that you might not even notice, but they make a big difference from the flat, matte of a single color and make your hair appear more voluminous, adding texture and movement, as well as a more natural and sunkissed glow.
