Now that it’s officially summer and quarantine isn’t quite as intense as before, you should get out and get some fresh air! While outside, you might notice some extra frizz from humidity or even waves starting to form where it was straight before. On top of that, what about sun damage? Don’t worry; we’ve got you! 

Summer Frizz

First off, let’s combat the obvious of summer frizz! During the summer it can be quite challenging maintaining a frizz free style that looks polished yet natural. The Shu Uemura product line gives you an easier way to achieve tons of modern and sophisticated at-home hair styles. If your hair is frizzy during these times we recommend Wonder Worker by Shu Uemura to control the frizz and create a natural style. Wonder workers is also great for heat protection from the sun! Double points!

Beach Waves

For the beautiful and effortless beach wave look, start with spraying Kerastase VIP on damp hair and distributing thoroughly. After applying, twist sections about half to an inch thick of hair all throughout your head and let dry naturally until it feels it’s about 70 or 80% dried. Then, tilt your head to the side so your hair falls vertically off your head and scrunch on both sides until you’ve created your desired lift and texture. If your hair is very fine, you can add a touch of Fiber Lift hair gel by Shu Uemura and repeat the process of letting air dry and then scrunching.

Sun Protection

Finally, let’s talk about protecting your hair. There are two components that are important for maintaining your hair’s integrity. First is a heat protectant. Most of the time we think of this as just for blowouts or curling irons, and while that heat is much more extreme than the sun (we’re talking up to 450 degrees!), we can still use protecting sprays or serums to protect from the sun. The most important, just like for your skin, is a UV protector. For this we recommend Soleil Creme UV Protection and Masque Apres Soleil, both by Kerastase. The Creme UV Protection is used similarly to a sunscreen and not only protects hair from sun damage while under the sun, but also controls summer frizz. The Masque is used after you are outside in the sun, almost like a lotion or aloe vera but for your hair! Together, these offer the best before and after protection and nourishment for summer, healthy and naturally sun kissed hair!
