It’s Summer! Since we can’t spend a lot of time out and about, it’s been harder than ever to achieve the perfect natural sunkissed glow from the sun. Everyone has been using color to lighten their hair rather than damage by using lemon or sun-in (oh no, don’t do that!). If you want this look for yourself and go to book online, you might be a bit confused as to which process is right for you to reflect your own personal sunkissed look. That’s what we’re here for: take a look here as our blonding expert, Krystal LiVeli explains the various color processes and helps you figure out which one could be a good fit for you!
Balayage
This is the latest trend in hair coloring techniques! In French it means, “to sweep,” which refers to the painting style application directly on your hair surface. It’s great for a warmer and more natural sun kissed look. It provides more depth at the root area and then increase the lightness to the ends of the hair. While you certainly can use balayage for any hair color, it tends to work best on hair with lighter natural base colors. Painting allows for less maintenance between coloring appointments, and often longer time periods between as well, but if you want a more stark color variation from your natural, it also may take multiple sessions to achieve the desired lightness.
Foil Highlights
Foiling is a bit more of a traditional technique of highlights. Because the hair sections are much more fine, the product is able to fully encapsulate the hair strands, keeping heat for processing close to the hair with the foil, creating separation and depth. Foils are great for getting the color very close to the root, for a more consistent look throughout the hair as a whole. Foiling the hair allows the hair to achieve al lighter color result in less sessions than balayage; it lasts approximately 8 weeks, depending on how fast your hair grows. Foils can also be placed back to back for a heavier, thorough blonde appearance.
Another fun thing with this technique for those struggling with grey, you don’t have to hide from your quarantine regrowth anymore, because silver hair is IN! You can start to subtly grow out your natural grey by using the foiling technique with either light or even dark contrast to enhance your natural color. It may take multiple sessions to achieve a 100% silver look (it does take “blending” after all), but looks amazing throughout the process and of course once the perfect color is reached!
Foilyage
This is exactly what it sounds like: a combination of Balayage and Foils. I know, sounds cool right? This is achieved by backcombing the hair to create a deeper root and lightening the ends with foils for a brighter final result. This is especially great for medium or dark hair colors and those who want more of an ombre (faded color to bright ends) style. When you book this, you can book it as Full Foil Highlights and our awesome technicians will make sure you get the look you want with foilyage.
Single Process
Generally when you think blonde you may think it’s too much to have a solid blonde color. That’s not always true! Depending on your skin tone and even your natural hair color and highlights, you can certainly lighten up your color with a single process! This would be a solid application of color all over your head to create a unified look. In addition, have you heard that grey hair makes the best blondes? Blonding can help with grey root touchups without leaving a solid line of demarkation or color variations throughout the strands.
Double Process
Ok, full platinum blonde has made a comeback! This process is achieved by first applying lightener all throughout your hair until the perfect lightness/lift is achieved. Then, a gloss is applied until you have the perfect shade of blonde: golden, ashy, silver, white, etc. All you have to do for upkeep is come back for a touchup and gloss every 3-5 weeks.
Now, I know what you’re thinking… Lightener doesn’t seem healthy for hair! Yikes! Actually, when done right it can still leave your hair with beautiful health and shine. Your technician will keep an eye on not just the color and tone of your hair, but how your hair is reacting to the lightener. Our technicians have been specifically trained to maintain the health and integrity of your hair, so you’re in great hands!
